Ecuador resumed talks to close trade agreement with the EU
Ecuador today resumed talks with the European Union (EU) with the purpose of resolving the last pending aspects, to finalize the free trade agreement with the European bloc, informed sources of the European Commission (EC).
After conducting internal consultations within that country, including with President Rafael Correa himself, the Ecuadorian negotiating team has arrived to Brussels “to hold separate meetings with the EC on July 16,” the sources said.
“The parties will study if they can find solutions on pending issues, focusing particularly on banana, in public procurement and European exporters solutions for problems caused by the procedures of Ecuadorian imports,” they said.
It is expected that the EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht and Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Trade Francisco Rivadeneira, meet to progress the talks.
