Ecuador’s passport is one of the weakest in Latin America, based on the number of destinations citizens can enter without a visa. A global ranking of passports says so.

With the Ecuadorian identification document, you can enter at least 92 countries in the world without a visa, according to The Henley Passport Index 2023 ranking, published in September.

Ahead of Ecuador, there are 21 other countries in the region; With their passports you can visit a greater number of destinations without applying for a visa.

The first Latin American passport to appear in the global ranking is that of Chile, which allows visa-free entry to 174 destinations.

This is followed by documents from Argentina, with visa-free entry to 169 countries, and Brazil, with 168 travel destinations.

Before Ecuador, there are also other passports from countries in the region such as Mexico, Panama, Peru, El Salvador, Honduras, Colombia, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

While, below Ecuador, those from nations such as Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Haiti appear. With the latter you can only enter 52 countries without a visa.

Global ranking

The most valued passport in the world is that of Singapore, with entry to 193 countries without obtaining a visa, according to The Henley Passport Index.

While second place is shared by eight countries, since their documents allow entry to 192 destinations without a visa. In this position are: Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain and Sweden.

And in the third are six countries, with passports that allow visa-free entry to 189 nations. These are Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

For its part, Ecuador appears in 60th place in the global ranking, a position it shares with Vanuatu, a country in Oceania.

Afghanistan is the country with the weakest passport in the ranking, with only 27 destinations that its citizens can enter without a visa.

The index includes 199 passports from around the world and, in turn, 227 travel destinations. The consulting firm Henley & Partners, based in London, prepares it with data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
