The European Union increases its banana consumption
National sales from January to August of this year totaled 247,960,827 boxes, 7% more.
The banana industry continues on its recovery path with greater shipments. From January to August 2023, according to data from the Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec), exported boxes totaled 247,960,827 boxes, which meant 7.17% more.
The main boost to these sales came from orders from the European Union, our main partner and the market that has had the most demands for fruit this year. According to statistics, the supply to that continent was 74,126,479 boxes, 22.41% more than the same period last year. In second place is Russia (51,370,504) , with a growth of 5.6%. The United States, the fourth market, after the Middle East, grew by 4.99%.
However, reductions are also evident in the Middle East with -8.38%; Eastern Europe with -46.94%, mainly due to the drastic reduction in exports to Ukraine due to the conflict with Russia; EFTA with -13.25%; and Canada with -81.90%.
The main exporter is the company Ubesa (Dole) with a share of 10.12%; In second place is Reybanpac with 7.24% and in third place is Noboa Trading CO., with 5.78% participation.
