Ecuador takes another step towards the construction of Smart Cities
Before more than 40 mayors of the country, representatives of Decentralized Autonomous Governments and dozens of students from different provinces, gathered in the Capital of the Republic, Minister Andrés Michelena Ayala presented the event “Building Smart and Sustainable Cities in Ecuador”.

The burgomaestres, professionals, technicians and actors involved in the development of the cities, had the opportunity to know, first hand, the digital policy led by the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL), and the decision of the National Government to reach cooperation agreements for the benefit of citizens.
During his speech, Minister Michelena explained that work is being done to lower connectivity costs in rural areas, advance telemedicine and online education, and provide online procedures in all state agencies. In this last point he invited the mayors present to join in the Simplification of Procedures project whose rectory is in charge of MINTEL and include their procedures in the portal www.gob.ec
The event was also attended by the Mayor of Quito, Jorge Yunda, who spoke about the Umaquito project, which brings together a group of engineers working in the 41 building institutions to find solutions to the problems of the capital, through technology.
The mayor of Ambato, Javier Altamirano, also participated, who shared, with the auditorium, the iAmbato project that seeks to optimize the management of the Municipal Government on issues such as: transport, entrepreneurship, services, taking as a reference the guidelines of the Ecuador Digital Policy.
Finally, the vice president of the Commission for Smart Cities, of the International Telecommunications Union, Héctor Carril, highlighted the action points of said United Nations agency to promote the development of the “Smart Cities” and congratulated MINTEL for its Policy Ecuador Digital.
After the protocol moment there were panels where ideas, criteria and projects were exchanged to be applied in the cities of the country, with the support of MINTEL, private entrepreneurs and mayors.
The National Government, through MINTEL, continues to create spaces for dialogue that contribute to and promote the technological development of Ecuador , always thinking about the well-being of citizens.
