Ecuador will launch its first satellite
President Rafael Correa said today that Ecuador, later this month, will launch, into space, its first satellite, which was manufactured in the country. The satellite will be launched from China.
“At the end of the month, we will launch the first Ecuadorian satellite and not a bought satellite from a foreign country, a satellite made in Ecuador,” Correa said, noting the initiative of the Ecuadorian Civilian Space Agency (EXA), directed by cosmonaut Ronnie Nader.
The small device called “Pegasus“, a cube of 10 by 10 centimeters, with 75 centimeters panels and a weight of 1.2 kilograms, will be launched on April 26 at 00:13 local time in Ecuador, from China, said Nader.
The small satellite will carry a video camera, which will send live images to a ground station in Ecuador to later publish them through internet.
