Ecuadorian Court affirms the implementation of environmental conviction against Chevron
Posted On 02 Mar 2012
The Court of Justice of the Ecuadorian province of Sucumbios upheld the order of execution of the sentence that orders the U.S. oil company Chevron to pay 18,000 million dollars due to a serious environmental damage in the Amazon.
In an order released, the Chamber of Sucumbios Court also rejects the position of an arbitral tribunal, which ordered the State to take all necessary measures to suspend the enforcement of that judgment.
The decision was announced two days after an international tribunal was declared competent to judge a lawsuit of Chevron against Ecuador, in a case involving the contamination in the Amazon. (FL)
