Ecuadorian Embassy in Italy will assist children separated from their families
Juan Fernando Holguín, Ambassador of Ecuador in Italy, announced that four teams of lawyers will protect Ecuadorian children that would have suffered “human rights violations,” after being separated from their families by Italian social services.
There will be four teams of lawyers who in the cities of Rome, Milan and Genoa, together with the National Institute of Family Education will litigate in the Italian courts, at no cost to the Ecuadorians.
According to the ambassador, there are eighty Ecuadorian children who have been removed from their homes and taken to institutionalized houses where “children go into a situation similar to a prison”.
He said that the reasons why infants are removed from their families are varied, but he criticized that the economic aspect is one of them, since “poverty is being punished”.
