Posted On 26 Sep 2012

According to calculations made by Favorita Corporation, the measure would mean changes in nearly 25 thousand products.
Industrialized food labels must implement warnings of concentrations of certain elements (fat, sugar and salt).
Labels shall use the colors of traffic lights to warn buyers, ie, red (high level), yellow (moderate) and green (lower level).
The legislation raises concerns in the business sector, as it argues that production will mean more costs and confusion for the customer.
According to calculations made by the Favorita Corporation, the largest supermarket chain in the country, the measure would mean changes in nearly 25,000 products that must obtain approval from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP). (MZ)
