The Tuna Conservation Group (Tunacons), made up of the Real Industrial Business, Eurofish, Jadran Group, Servigroup and Trimarine tuna companies, have expressed their support to the United Nations World Economic Forum for the 2020 Tuna Traceability Declaration during the Conference on Oceans held this week between Monday 5 and Friday 9 June in New York.
The declaration seeks to eradicate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. It was even proposed to consider it as a robbery. It currently represents $ 24 billion a year in countries where the fishery represents significant livelihoods, often in developing countries and small island states.
Tunacons is pushing for a process that seeks to obtain the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label for catches made by its fleets in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (I).
