Edgar Vaca was arrested in Washington

The Interior Ministry said in a statement yesterday that the former general Edgar Vaca was captured by Interpol on last Tuesday at Washington, United States, and he remains under “deportation queue.”
Vaca, 66, had a remand order from October 3, 2013, which had been ordered by the National Court of Justice for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity that occurred during the administration of late President León Febres Cordero.
Vaca is one of the 10 generals and three colonels, all retired, of the Army and Police, accused by the prosecution for their alleged responsibility for torture, sexual violence and forced disappearance in 1985 of three guerrillas who were accused of having links the subversive group Alfaro Vive Carajo (AVC).
