EDOC Film Festival opens with ‘The death of Jaime Roldos’

Yesterday began the twelfth edition of the international documentary film festival Encounters of Another Films (EDOC), in Quito, which will screened 121 documentaries.
The documentary ‘La Muerte de Jaime Roldos’ (The death of Jaime Roldos), directed by Lisandra Rivera and Manuel Sarmiento, was the opening act for this event. This film is about the unexplained episode of the death of former President of Ecuador, Jaime Roldos and the relationship of this fact with the failure of democracy restored in 1979.
On May 24, 1981, a plane which carried former President Jaime Roldos crashed into the hill of Huayrapungo, in the province of Loja, in the crash also was killed the first lady Martha Bucaram, and seven people who accompanied them. The accident was never cleared up and to date there is the perception that Roldós was killed.
The festival is being held at the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana National Theatre and will host around a dozen foreign and local guests between directors and film scholars.
