Defeated, but applauded by his fans, the blue team fell 2-3 last night at the Capwell Stadium against Universidad Catolica and was eliminated. The Chileans had won 4-0 at home in Santiago during last week’s first round.
Around 15 000 fans went to see a quick and eager Emelec make goals that originated some seven arrivals that could have meant another, but that their rival, with luck and dedication managed to avoid, but once again the effectiveness of the Chileans counterstrike scored one of the only two arrivals in the first time.
History repeated itself in the second half and when Emelec came insistently it received a second goal due to a counterattack, such insistence earned the blue team two goals and thus they teams were in a two goal momentary tie, but again at counterstrike of the Chileans added the third and definitive goal. Catolica finally passed to the next round of the Copa Sudamericana with an aggregate score of 7-2 and should be measured in the next round with the defending champion of the tournament, the Brazilian team Sao Paulo.
