Emelec took it out on Deportivo Quito
Five days after finishing with Emelec’s perfect mark in the national championship (eight straight wins in eight matches), Deportivo Quito lost last night in the Capwell stadium, his condition of sole undefeated team in the tournament against the same opponent.
With a goal of Marlon De Jesus, at minute 60, Emelec retaliated and prevailed 1-0 over Deportivo Quito, and with 27 points, they’re still on top of the scoreboard (6 places above Barcelona and Liga de Quito). The marker could have been wider but De Jesus (m34) and Fernando Gaibor (m77) crashed the ball in Fabian Carini’s goal.
At the 60th minute, Caicedo, after a series of passes , burst down the left and center-crossed the area. There, De Jesus anticipated Luis Checa and sent the ball deep in the net. From there, Deportivo Quito had no reaction and caused no danger. Emelec will play on May 2 against Brazilian Fluminense for the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores.
The tournament continues tomorrow with the following matches: Barcelona vs El Nacional, Liga de Quito vs Macara, Manta vs Liga de Loja and Deportivo Quevedo vs Independiente.
