Emmy Awards: Modern Family and Mad Men Swept The Awards
The 2011 Emmy Awards ceremony was celebrated Sunday at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. ABC’s sitcom Modern Family and Mad Menwere the big winners of the night.
Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey got the most awards, winning 8 and 6 respectively. Mad Men won the award for best drama series for the fourth time in a row, while Modern Family was awarded for best comedy series. Legendary Martin Scorsese got the first Emmy of his carreer by directing Boardback Empire’s pilot episode while Downton Abbeywon the stattuette for best miniseries of the year.
Between the surprises of the night Kyle Chandler won the Emmy for best drama actor for Friday Night Lights instead of favorites Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), while The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons beat The Office’s Steve Carrel and won the award for best comedy actor.
Favorite Julianna Marguilies got the Emmy for best drama actress and Mike and Molly’s Melissa McCarthy was surprised to hear she won the award for best comedy actress, defeating Amy Poehler.
