Enrique Ponce: “we will make a smart tourist promotion in the country.”

From the public sphere and as minister of Tourism, Enrique Ponce de Leon has set new challenges. The ultimate goal: to convert Ecuador into a true world tourism power.

Q: You have proposed a tourist for each inhabitant. The proposal is ambitious, how will you achieve it?

A: We will start promoting tourism from inside. We have a country worth visiting: we have attractions, road infrastructure, hotels, services. Now we are aware of what we have, but we must also think about what we have lacked: a quality, attractive and accessible product. Something that makes Ecuadorians decide to tour the country. We are working on that, and we’ll do it through a tour packaging. Let’s pack the country!

Q: And how will you design this product?

A: With representatives of the hotel sectors, travel agencies, food and beverage entrepreneurs, airlines, public banks, we are working on the creation of tourist packages that will be put on sale at a large national tourism fair.  We will energize the economy and retain the dollars in the country; we will get the Ecuadorians to know and love their country, to feel capable of receiving foreign tourists. Thus, we will achieve the 1×1: one tourist per inhabitant. (I)
