EU leaders evaluate sanctions against Russia
Posted On 31 Aug 2014
The leaders of the European Union (EU) met yesterday, August 30, at a summit in Brussels to evaluate new sanctions against Russia, which they called to cease its “illegal military actions” in Ukraine that threaten to reach a “point of no return. “
“We are in a very dramatic situation,” said the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso after meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. “We could find ourselves in a situation where we would be at a point of no return if the climbing in Ukraine continues,” he added.
The meeting took place at a time when reports of incursions by regular forces of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine multiply.
