Europe renewed for one year the SGP plus
The Ecuadorian Government reported yesterday in a press release that the plenum of the European Parliament renewed yesterday, until December of 2014, the SGP Plus for Ecuador.
According to the Executive, the extension is a result of the intervention of Trade Minister Francisco Rivadeneira, carried out last October, in Brussels, Belgium, both in the Commission and in Parliament.
Bruno Leone, Vice President of the National Chamber of fishery, pointed out that tif the extension would not has approved, the most affected product would have been tuna, because it had to pay 24% for tariffs “and with that we stayed out of the market”.
Head of Fedexpor, Felipe Ribadeneira, said that they expected this decision which “gives definitive peace to exporters”.
“Now we must think clearly that we don’t want to go back to experience this European administrative problems that can directly affect our production”, said Rivadeneira, who made reference to more than 200 domestic products that benefit from this preferential mechanism since 2002.
The Ministry of Commerce said that the Directorate-General for trade of the European Commission made the announcement that the publication of the resolution probably will be effective in the week of January 6, 2014.
“The new regime will be considered applicable from January 1 2014, without any interruption of the tariff benefits,” said that State portfolio.
