Posted On 02 Mar 2012
Convened by the European Trade Union Confederation, European workers called on the entire continent to demonstrate against the austerity policy with the slogan “Stop it.”
This mobilization began on February 29, a day of the summit of the European Union (EU) in Brussels in which it would be signed the new European treaty of budgetary discipline.
In Spain, students rallied in Madrid and other cities shouting “less cuts, more education”. Unions called for new days of demonstrations in Spain for March 8.
In Brussels, some 200 representatives of Belgian trade unions, French, Germans, Austrians and Greeks gathered outside the headquarters of the European Council, where the summit will be held.
