Exemption from tourist visa is celebrated by Colombia
The approval by the European Parliament of the tourist visa exemption for 90 days in the Schengen area for Colombians and Peruvians was cause for celebration this Thursday for the government of Colombia.
After the vote in the European legislative by 523 votes in favor, 41 against and 13 abstentions, the initiative proposed by the Spanish government in August 2013, must receive approval from the European Commission.
“It’s a triumph of Colombian diplomacy and something very good for the pride of the Colombians,” said this Thursday the president Juan Manuel Santos.
While the Chancellor María Angela Holguin declared to the press that the vote “demonstrates that what Europeans want is to enter a new relationship with Latin America, especially with Colombia and Peru.”
