Posted On 07 Jan 2014
Through 56 votes in favour and 26 against, the nomination of Economist Janet Yellen as the new responsible for directing the U.S. Federal Reserve was approved. The Reserve, which has existed for 100 years, will have its first woman in charge.
The Economist will replace Ben Bernanke and his term will be exercised for four years from February 1.
Yellen, is known for her fight against unemployment and support to the Federal Reserve to stimulate the economy with low interest rates and acquisition of bonds.
It is noteworthy that she will be the first holder of the organization nominated by a Democrat, after last October she was nominated by President Barack Obama.
