Finding the taste of your country in Hainan: yellow pitahaya
The yellow dragon fruit is a fruit frequently seen on the streets of Haikou, the capital of the southern province of Hainan. This tropical fruit native to Central America is widely consumed here. A yellow pitahaya can be sold for more than 4 dollars and has now become a fruit that brings a lot of profit to the local farmers.

In 2015, the Haikou Experiment Station of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), and the South Coast Experiment Station of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP) and established a strategic partnership, to exchange new species of tropical fruits such as the yellow pitahaya.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador announced on April 4, the Ecuadorian pitahaya will reach the Chinese market. China joins the 58 countries that this fruit reaches. China has imported pitaya from Ecuador for the first time after the arrival yesterday Monday in Shanghai of 420 kilograms of the yellow variety of this fruit.
The batch, packed in 168 cardboard boxes, each weighing 2.5 kilograms, arrived in Shanghai after a three-day flight from the South American country’s capital Quito, customs authorities at the Pudong airport said. where a green channel has been opened for these rare fruit varieties to ensure speedy customs clearance.
The yellow pitaya has a high nutritional value, its cost is several times higher than the standard imported dragon fruit and is similar to it, although it is sweeter.
In July 2022, the General Administration of Customs of China officially authorized the import of Ecuadorian pitaya that meets the relevant requirements.
