Five Peruvian boats detained in Ecuadorian waters

Five Peruvian boats were seized yesterday by the Ecuadorian Navy during a routine patrol at a point close to the Puná Island and Punta Salinas.
According to official sources, 18 people belonging to the crew, all Peruvian, were also detained. Three of the captured boats were found in the area of Puná Island-Punta Salinas, with at least 13 fish drawers, while the other two were detected close to them with 7 fish drawers.
All boats had their fishing gear in the water, in other words, they were operating in the Ecuadorian EEZ without authorization and were not carrying any shipping documentation.
