Folk groups get ready to tour the Galapagos
Ecuadornews:

The dance company Costeñas Retrovador returns to the archipelago after more than twenty years and will perform several shows together with the La Gorra costumbrista theater group. The invitation is made by the Ecuadorian House of Culture.
On Thursday October 18 will be held at the House of Culture Ecuadorian Núcleo del Guayas (Nine of October and Pedro Moncayo), the event called “Pa ‘Galápagos, compa.” It is a show of farewell, celebration and tribute to the folkloric managers of the Retrovador Costeñas Danzas Company and the La Gorra Comedy Theater group, who were invited by the Galápagos Nuclear Culture House to a five-day artistic tour (October 24-28) for the enchanted islands.
During the event the choreography of folkloric dance montuvia and porteñas Ballet Retrovador will be shown, which is directed by the historian, writer and folklorist Wilman Ordóñez. “We are invited to recreate and represent a set of dances and songs in the framework of various artistic events to be held in the Galapagos Islands,” said Ordóñez.
Traditional themes such as “Hike that you have seen”, “The iguana”, “El Moño”, “Take out your foot” and “The naughty” are some of the colonial dances and crossed polkas that can be enjoyed during the two hours of show.
To bring a first level show, the members of Retrovador have undergone a rigorous testing regime. “They have been very tired days, many trials, but we do it to show the best we have. We are a group that for the quality of our presentations we have made a name and now we must demonstrate, “said Carlos Morales, a dancer with 16 years of experience in this group, who has taken his dances to several countries in Latin America such as Colombia, Argentina , Mexico, Peru, Panama, Brazil, among others.
The second part of the show will be in charge of the La Gorra theater, which will represent aspects of the montuvias oralities through the recitations, counterpoints and tenth spinels. José Saltos, actor with 18 years of experience and director of the cast, added that during his presentation they will also stage several sketches that will comically dramatize situations of daily life.
“We will present three works: The taxi, Employment and The cowboys. The first dramatizes situations that a taxi driver lives during his daily days; in the second, there will be a differentiation of how people should behave when they are going to apply for a job and how they actually behave; while the third is an interactive work that simulates a cowboy movie, where the public can participate”.
Saltos detailed that the histrionic body is currently him, along with Ney Ponguillo (known for his role as Compadre Dulio in the extinct TV series My Recinto) and Isidro Murillo, who personifies Agapito in the telenovela Tres Familias.
The event has the support of the Ecuadorian Culture House, the Montuvia Regional Culture Foundation and the private company. The act will last two hours (18:30 to 20:30) and the entrance will cost $ 5 per person, but those who purchase their tickets in the presale will benefit the income of two people with a ticket.
Activities in Galapagos
Paola Zambrano, member of the board of directors of the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana Núcleo (Ecuadorian House of Culture) and coordinator responsible for the invitation, stressed that during the tour, the artists will have two activities of special relevance.
The first will be on October 26 at a folk dance festival organized annually by a school on Santa Cruz Island. “Here they will make a demonstration of coastal dances, because we want the students to know the characteristics of the folklore of this region,” said the coordinator.
The tour will close with a presentation at the closing ceremony of the Langosta Festival, which will be held from the 25th to the 27th of this month in the San Francisco Park, the main attraction site of the Santa Cruz Island boardwalk, where in addition to Retrovador and La Gorra, dozens of local artists will also perform.
