Francis made his first appointment to the curia
Posted On 07 Apr 2013
Yesterday, Pope Francis named the Spanish José Rodriguez Carballo, of 59 years, as the leader of the main Franciscan order, according to the Holy See.
In his first appointment at the Vatican society, the Supreme Pontiff decreed that Rodriguez, who comes from a family of poor Spanish farmers who migrated to Germany, will be the number two of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, which oversees Catholic religious orders.
Today, Francis will take possession of the cathedra of the Bishop of Rome in the basilica of San Juan de Letran, during a ceremony that will take place when not a month has passed since he was chosen as the maximum authority of the Catholic Church.
