“The first challenge, which we are overcoming little by little, is that people in the social sector understands the idea of the new technology tendencies.”
In the beginning of 2000, there were certain areas of organizations that did not took advantage of the current technology. They did not know how to improve the use of Internet and that’s why Eduardo Bejar decided to create Fundapi to help others solve this weaknesses. It was on August 21 of 2001 that Fundapi was officially created, one of its first tasks was the basic preparation to give a better attention through Internet.
It is during these workshops that Eduardo Bejar realized that many groups of ONG weren’t taking maximum advantage of the new tendencies and technologies and hence decided to move the knowledge of a more proper use for Internet to people that have some access, for that reason the foundation a created.
The work of Fundapi has been distributed through several fields; the first is the proficiency, where they develop technology projects that have some initiative to create educational projects based on technologies used in virtual fields. Fundapi has participated in events of growth and development that create conscience about the specific problems related with Internet and the technology.
To promote its services Fundapi created the site sectorsocial.org where he acknowledges the work of other foundations in Ecuador. Among its many activities they help to develop ONG regarding social networks and collaborate with events thanks to the help of an international virtual community ‘Valley’ in Ecuador IguanaValley, an entity that seeks to create local Valleys to support the development and growth of technology.
Fundapi is also present in spaces like Barcamp, places that gives them presence and earn contacts with people that seek to develop new tendencies. For now the main objective of Fundapi is to capacitate ONG groups about the use of technology and Internet.
Fundapi wishes to reduce the digital gap by involving itself in new laws related with the technology. Among its electronic projects Fundapi seeks the support to create a platform that helps with the needs of Internet, while it continues to participate in events with the support of universities and sponsors.
Among its achievements Fundapi is recognized as one of the 20 digital leaders in Latin America, the recognition was made by the digital group Netsquare. For its work in 2007, making donations through a Twitt to help foundations, also for its success in website Yankana, a site where tutorials are given about how an ONG can use specific tools of Internet to improve their presence and make a name.
