Syrian Regime Renews Attacks on its Main Cities

Today the Syrian army renewed raids and confrontations with the rebels in the southwestern belt of Damascus, in the town of Daraya, 15 people perished in the attacks, among the victims were two women and three children. Activists called it a renewed bid to crush the insurgency in the capital “once and for all.”
According to the local activists the city of Aleppo was assaulted by combat helicopters and tanks that fired upon rebel-held areas in the battered northern city. Meanwhile the government of President Bashar al-Assad pressed on with its campaign against the rebels forces that threaten his regime.
The escalation of violence occurred a day after the new international UN-Arab League envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, who admitted he was “scared” of the task he now faces ‘finding a viable solution for the 18th-month civil war in Syria.’ AV
