Posted On 21 Jan 2011
Vicente Sarmiento was one of the organizers of the so-called Funeral March against crime, performed on Thursday at 17:00 in downtown Guayaquil. On October 8, 24-year old, Vicente Francisco, Sarmiento’s son died due to a hemorrhagic pancreatitis caused by an overdose of scopolamine.
During the march signatures were collected to make a popular consult and request reforms to the Ecuadorian Penal Code. Sarmiento pointed out that there is also going to be a march against crime in Machala, and there are plans for a march in Quito next week. The organizer informed that Foundation Vicente Sarmiento is being legalized; this entity will help freely the victims of crime. The march started from the park Centenario until Malecon Simon Bolivar.
