Three Flooded Provinces in Ecuador
At the north of Manabí 120 people were evacuated from their homes because of a heavy rain, which began on Wednesday and lasted until yesterday at 6:00, that flooded the 40 homes where they lived.
Jairo Flores, Fire Department Chief from El Carmen –North of Manabí-, said that some firefighters had to swim in order to evacuate some occupants, while other residents had already left their houses because they feared a devastation because of the flow. Flores assured that the flood was caused because ot the garbage dumped by residents in a nearby ravine, which got the sewers blocked.
In Los Rios, high winds and torrential rains caused havoc in sectors such as: Vinces, Palenque, Ventanas, and Babahoyo. On Tuesday, the rain lasted eight hours while on Wednesday it rained since 22:00 until 06:00 of yesterday; there were landslides, overflowing rivers, and flooded neighborhoods in Palenque, Vinces, and Ventanas.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains that fall over the province of Esmeraldas have increased the level of rivers and estuaries.
