Geovanny Bastidas: A new hero in the neighborhood
Behind the tragic fire of last Wednesday in the north of Guayaquil, is Geovanny Bastidas, a citizen who thanks to his heroic and early involvement saved the lives of two people and helped rescue three more.
Geovanny, 25, not only has become the guardian angel of this family, but also a national hero after rescuing two of the five members of the family, after the house began to burn.
Geovanny, who spent eight years working as a waiter in the restaurant “Mi Colmbia”, was off duty when the fire and the screams attracted his attention. Looking the house on fire, Geovanny started to climb the walls to get to the roof and rescue the trapped. He saved two people, and then, with the help of the Fire Department, he could save the following three members.
“There were a few seconds that I was alone until the fire department arrived. We went down the stairs, and rescued the girl and then the lady, until the firefighters arrived.”
This young worker is married and has a daughter with physical disabilities. Geovanny insists that the greatest gift of his life is the love of his family and says that God put him in the right place and at the right time for a purpose.
“At that moment I felt the need to get them out (of the house). What mattered in that moment was that the people inside could leave the house.”
Although he doesn’t consider himself as a hero, Ecuador applauds the bravery and courage of this man, who without measuring the danger, saved the lives of five people.
