Posted On 24 Apr 2015
A giant stingray was captured in the Peruvian region of Tumbes, in the border with Ecuador. It is reported that the animal, with a length of more than 8 meters and a weight of 1,000 kilos, was caught by artisanal fisherfolk of La Cruz, and the help of a crane was required to lift it.
According to the Andina news agency Thursday the prosecutor of Crime Prevention of Tumbes Felix Quinde Feijoo was informed about the discovery of a giant stingray, so he contacted representatives of Sea Institute of Peru (IMARPE for its Spanish acronym) to document the fact. The case became viral when a tourist shared the photo last April 18.
