Giant Weta Bug Found in New Zealand
Posted On 09 Dec 2011
An American researcher and renowned Entomologist at the Smithsonian Institution recently informed he has found the biggest bug in the world on New Zealand’s Little Barrier Island.
The Weta insect has a wingspan of 18 centimeters and weighs three times as much as a mouse. Most European settlers thought it was extinct after they brought rats to New Zealand.
The photographer Mark Moffett along with the 53-year-old entomologist returned the bug right where they found it after taking several pictures. (AV)
