Glas does not return to Quito, he stays in Latacunga

Posted On 07 Dec 2018

Ecuadornews:

Former Vice President Jorge Glas is serving his sentence of 6 years for unlaw fulassociation – in relation to the construction company Odebrecht – and his case obtained this December 6, a new resolution issued by the Court of Cotopaxi: to remain in the Center for Social Rehabilitation Regional Sierra, North Center. That is, in Latacunga.

From October 2018 he was transferred from prison 4 in Quito to Latacunga and from that moment, the Former Vice President went on a hunger strike that led him to return for less than 24 hours to the Ecuadorian capital, to be treated at Carlos Hospital Andrade Marín.

This new decision in his process, obeys the appeal filed by his defense before a previous resolution issued by Vinicio Santamaría Jiménez, Judge of the Criminal Judicial Unit based in the canton Latacunga.

On that occasion, the judge did not give way to the habeas corpus filed against the Director of the Center for Social Rehabilitation Sierra Centro Norte de Cotopaxi. However, this time “the constitutional writ of habeas corpus was granted in favor of the plaintiff, Ing. Jorge David Glas Espinel,” as notified by a judicial document of the Court of that province.

There are 11 terms that are listed and to which Glas must adhere as long as his sentence is fulfilled. Among the most important are:

1. He will take care of and guarantee his “right to health and physical and psychological integrity”, so he will be given constant care in his illnesses. Especially juvenile an kylosing spondylitis with which he has been diagnosed. Due to this disease,  his attention will be paid at the Rehabilitation Center of the IESS Latacunga Hospital, where, according to the document, there is a specialist in Rheumatology.

2. He will also have specialized attention for his health condition broken by the hunger strike. “his momentary transfer to a hospital of the Public Health Network is accepted, so that the specialty doctors do an exhaustive job of the clinical picture in order to stabilize it.” After these revisions, youmust return to the prison of Latacunga.

3. On the need for a possible operation in his column, the Criminal Chamber that heard the case said that “the issue of the operation has been postponed until the political campaign is over and has been postponed until today.”The final decision of when it will be made will be taken by the specialists.

4. At least in two of the items detailed here, priority is given to the supply of drinking water for this prison center. Between the Ministry of Justice and the management of the place they will be in charge of “providing the suitablecistern for the storage of water with the treatment of constant potabilization, granting the term of 180 days for its full execution”.

His followers, however, demand true justice and from social networks are pronounced with the hashtag #LibertadParaJorgeGlas. (I)

Se complica, aún mas, situación de Jorge Glas, jueces negaron Habeas Corpus, señalan que el gobierno puede autorizar regreso a cárcel 4. Jueces al servicio del poder político. Sin valor para defender las leyes y las garantías constitucionales. #LibertadParaJorgeGlas
