Government and companies pay the Christmas bonuses in a difficult year
Employers of the private sector have starting from today four days to pay the thirteenth salary. Section 111 of the Labour Code regulates the payment of this bonus, known as Christmas bonus. It corresponds to full pay, ie, salary plus bonuses, overtime, commissions, etc.
Until last year workers received until December 24 the complete thirteenth salary. However, with the approval of the Law of Labor Justice, it is possible to receive it on a monthly basis.
Only those who decided to keep the above mentioned mechanism are entitled to the full amount until Thursday. Despite the impact on liquidity generated by the private sector this economically difficult year, employers have managed to pay the bonus or are about to do it.
This is the case of Cristian Ponce, owner of the detergents factory PROQUIM. On December 11 he paid the bonus to the 12 employees of the company, but he admits it was a tough year. “We cut staff. We were 15 people, but now we are 12.
