Government boosts plan to strengthen the family to replace the Enipla
The new project called Plan Familia Ecuador (Family Plan Ecuador for its Spanish name) will be the one to substitute the Enipla (Intersectoral Strategy for Family Planning and Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention for its Spanish acronym). The same, consists of 98 pages that deal with sex education and teen pregnancy prevention.
Monica Hernandez will be responsible for implementing the plan and the budget for it would be about USD 32 million.
The current plan indicates it is supported by scientific studies “that show the importance of the family as the basic unit of society” and claim that “adolescents who have parental protection wait longer to start their sexual life” and by living ” with both parents they are three times less likely to lose their virginity before age 16 years old.”
President Rafael Correa said that the old Enipla “was totally wrong,” he also said that an error as “hedonism” would have been produced, which promoted the “pleasure for pleasure” and had the message: “enjoy and if you have trouble go to the Health center.”
The new Family Plan Ecuador prioritizes the education system over the preeminence the Ministry of Health had in the old Enipla.
