Government supporters request an audit of Guillermo Lasso´s campaign
Klever Caiza of the Javier Serrano, representatives of the Socialist Party and the Alianza PAIS Movement, respectively, yesterday requested the National Electoral Council (CNE) to make an audit of the alleged primary campaign of the CREO leader and former banker Guillermo Lasso.
The request was made in the framework of the meeting the CNE held yesterday with these groups, in addition to the Fuerza Ecuador party and the Ecuadorian Union and Popular Unity political movements.
This is the second meeting of the CNE with political organizations; last Friday the body held meetings with ten other opposition organizations, which anticipated their decision to exercise control of the 2017 electoral process.
Caixa posed to the CNE to control the “primary campaign conducted by Guillermo Lasso” because, according to him, Lasso participates in public events and appears constantly in mass media.
Serrano said that one thing is the electoral promotion and another different is that made by mayors on their works. He clarified that, regarding the weekly addresses of Rafael Correa, the electoral body opened a file in 2014 and determined that these are accountability sessions.
Juan Pablo Pozo, president of the CNE, said that, by provision of law, the agency conducts controls before, during and after the elections.
Pozo said that there are 152 registered political organizations; of these, 12 are parties and national movements and the others are provincial, cantonal and parochial movements.
There are also more than 80 password requests to start the signature collection process and register for 2017. Details of the 2017 electoral calendar will be announced in February.
