Great end of the year in Times Square
Times Square in New York, expects to receive hundreds of thousands of people in the afternoon and evening today, to celebrate the start of the New Year. Everything is ready and the traditional crystal ball will descend for 60 seconds, from a tower of 40 meters, and once is down, it will light up figures of the New Year, 2013.
This year the organizers have incorporated a design called “Let There Be Peace“, with 288 triangles forming a dove with outstretched wings, as a symbol of peace that should reign in the world.
The traditional ball drop has taken place since 1907, except for 1942 and 1943, when the ceremony was suspended by World War II and was replaced by a minute of silence.
The security measures have been tightened, by air and by land, to ensure the safety of people across the 16 entrances to the square, where a big artistic show in the previous hours is planned. The show will include performances of U.S. singer Taylor Swift and South Korean sensation PSY.
