Greenpeace Highlights Eco-Friendly Tech Companies

Posted On 09 Feb 2012

The organization in favor of nature, Greenpeace, evaluates the ecological impact of the technology industry since 2009. Greenpeace publishes an annual ranking, comprehended by a list of companies organized by the score they got for their environmental policies.

In the last issue, Google tops the list of eco-friendly technology companies (53/100 points), followed by Cisco (49), Ericsson and Fujitsu (48). Telefónica is also on the list with 11 points. However, Apple and Facebook do not appear in the ranking.

Despite the size and financial condition of Apple, Greenpeace believes it has no initiatives to improve its environmental policy. Facebook could be on the list next year as it has announced to stop relying on coal-fired power plants and install a storage server in Sweden, near the Arctic Circle.

The green organization not only measures the materials used in the manufacturing of computers or phones, or recycling systems. It also calculates gas emissions and their impact on global warming. Technological companies represent 2% of the gases emitted on Earth.
