Guayaquil and neighboring cantons would have airbuses
Mayor Jaime Nebot reported that together with mayors of Duale, Samborondon and Duran, have agreed to join Guayaquil in a project that studies the possibility of having an airbus system, which would work parallel to the plan to expand the Metrovia and make it inter-cantonal.
The Mayor believes that this would be a feasible work, accepted by the thousands of users from the four cantons; who would agree on pay a bit more than the $ 0.25 for the Metrovia, to save gasoline to come from Duale, Samborondon or Duran to Guayaqui’s downtown.
Nebot questioned the Government’s proposal to make a subway: “I heard about a train. How much and how long it will takes (the work)?(…) No subway in the world that I know costs less than $ 1.50 a ticket, even in conditions that are not in the phreatic level of the city which would increase the cost. That train means a difference of $ 1.25 per ticket to the current price. In a million trips a day, who’s going to pay a subsidy of $ 1.25 million per day?”, questioned the Mayor.
He said his proposal would have air-suspended buses that will be concessioned to the private sector and explained that if the mayors of other cantons want to join, that will benefit the concept of Metropolitan Guayaquil” said Nebot .
