Guayaquil Slaughterhouse Resumes Normal Works
Guayaquil slaughterhouse workers returned to work this morning after two consecutive days of strike and riots.
This morning, dozens of workers were preparing to market the meat around 5:00. The strike was cause because the workers were against the rate increase and alleged mistreatment of the administrator.
Following clashes between laborers and police, some 200 uniformed municipals remain entrenched in the place this morning and watched the normal development of activities.
According to city supervisor Jorge Saltos, for today is planned the deboning of 495 head of cattle. While Jaime Nebot, Guayaquil’s Mayor announced yesterday that municipal rates, currently at $14.75, that will be maintained and that the City “will not subsidize private business.”
