Haciendas converted into hostels attract historic tourism

The hacienda houses are architectural gems, a historical heritage that has become – in the short term – one of the most important tourist products in Ecuador.
The haciendas of height, which are located in the Ecuadorian mountains, enjoy a privileged view over the valleys and volcanoes, between 2,600 and 4,200 meters above sea level.
There are about forty haciendas in the country. Among the most renowned are: Pinsaquí, Zuleta, Cusin (Imbabura), La Ciénega, San Agustín del Callo, (Cotopaxi); Guachalá, Chillo Jijón and El Porvenir (Pichincha).
La Hacienda Pinsaqui is located in the center of the province of Imbabura. It is famous for having hosted throughout its history to characters like Simon Bolivar, who often spent the night on the road to Colombia.
Here, was signed at the end of the 19th century, the treaty by which Ecuador and Colombia regained their friendship after years of conflict.
The hacienda, which was built in 1790 as a textile factory, maintains its traditional decoration. Currently it has 27 rooms equipped with fireplaces, some with Jacuzzi.
Ximena Silva, based in Guayaquil, says that the hacienda is very beautiful and well decorated. “The attention is spectacular and the food is delicious. It is also very well located to walk around the area. We hope to return, “said the tourist.
In 2017, this hacienda, located at the foot of the Imbabura volcano, received 9,113 people, and in the first quarter of 2018 it already borders 1,100 visits.
The cost per night is $ 108. This tourist alternative has generated work sources and with it the development for the community, becoming an ideal option for those who want to connect with the history and ancestral traditions. (I)
