Hurricane Isaac Approaches New Orleans
Posted On 29 Aug 2012
Hurricane Isaac strength pushed water over a rural levee and took out the power, it also flooded beach-front roads before dawn in Louisiana and Mississippi as it began a slow slog inland from the Gulf of Mexico.
Powerful wind gusts and heavy rains assailed the empty streets of New Orleans, a powerful storm flooded over an 18-mile stretch of one levee in Plaquemines Parish south of New Orleans, flooding several homes in a low populated area.
Parish authorities believe some people could be trapped, but it has not been confirmed. Rescuers are waiting for the strong winds to die before going out and search for possible missing people. AV
