Isaac grazes New Orleans
The strong winds and heavy rains of Hurricane Isaac grazed the city of New Orleans, but not without letting it feel the full force of the storm. The tropical phenomena dumped nearly a foot of rain on its desolate streets.
However the system of levee pumps, walls and gates helped to withstand the wrath of nature. People was rescued and evacuated from the north and south of New Orleans as Isaac moved over Louisiana.
Hurricane Isaac started as a Category 1 hurricane, with 80 mph winds close to the Mississippi River. The storm drove a wall of water of 11 feet high inland; the effects of the storm disabled the power to 700,000 people. AV
