IACHR Dismissed the Complaints the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister
The Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) reported that the topics discussed at the special meeting in the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) with the Ecuadorian government delegation, “will not be taken into account in the evaluation of petitions or specific cases, and have not been nor will they be registered in their files.”
A statement published in the website of the OAS said that it regretted that the meeting was used by the requesting party to review a specific case, when it was requested to discuss general topics. The meeting was about the precautionary measures requested by Ecuador in El Universo case.
According to IACHR, the meeting was requested by the Ecuadorian Government to “express their conceptual concerns and the procedure in the Commission for adopting the American system of precautionary measures along with the process of individual petitions.”
The citation was issued for March 29, to discuss “the procedures and precautionary measures of petitions and cases without referring to a specific topic.” (AV)
