IACHR regretted absence of Ecuador in their audiences
The IACHR today “deeply” regretted that the Government of Ecuador decided not to attend the two hearings about the country sceduled for today in the international organization, dedicated to freedom of expression, the status of the right to freedom of association and the defenders of nature in Ecuador.
“We deeply regret that we do not have the honorable State of Ecuador with us today,” said Commissioner responsible for Ecuador in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Rose-Marie Antoine.
For her part, the President of the Commission, Tracy Robinson noted that the hearings “represent an important part of the work of the Commission” and “decisions are not taken there.”
The Commissioner also hoped that a date would be set soon for a visit of the Commission to Ecuador, pending since November 2012.
Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patiño, said on Thursday that his government would not be present at the hearing of the Commission, because of the refusal to be rendered to the “political show”, in his view, the Commission had organized.
