IAEA Chief Will Visit South America

The South American tour of Yukiya Amano (Japan), director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will begin today. During 12 days, Amano will visit Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina and is scheduled to meet with the presidents Sebastian Pinera (Chile), Juan Manuel Santos (Colombia), CristinaFernandez (Argentina), and Ollanta Humala (Peru).
Technical cooperation projects that the IAEA keeps with these countries will be a central theme in the talks. Nuclear Security is another important issue to discuss because there are several scientists whose jet fuel should be changed from highly enriched uranium (HEU) to low enriched uranium (LEU) in America.
The work program of the head of the IAEA will begin on Tuesday in Lima, where he will spend two days and then he will visit Santiago de Chile next Thursday and Friday. Amano will be in Ecuador between July 2nd and 4th and on July 5th and 6th in Colombia, to conclude his tour in Argentina on July 9th. (MS)
