Implementation of construction regulations is urgent, experts say

Experts note as urgent the application of the Ecuadorian construction standards, a renewed regulation, published in 2015. This text sets more rigorous parameters for buildings to be safe and resistant to earthquakes.

According to the Organic Code of Territorial Organization, municipalities must oversee compliance with these rules. However, Enrique Pita, president of the Construction Chamber, said that the councils do not have enough and trained staff to perform these ‘technical audits.’
