Import pays less duties and taxes when entering Ecuador
Merchandise importers will be able to begin to ease transportation costs caused by the global supply crisis in recent months. This after last week the total elimination of the value of the freight from the tax base with which the payment of customs duties was calculated came into effect.
The measure will allow the high cost of maritime transport, experienced by the business sector since the middle of last year due to the shortage of spaces on ships, not make products that come from abroad more expensive.
“In other words, imports will pay less tariffs and taxes when entering the country,” according to a statement from the National Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae) and the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries (Mpceip).
Senae said it is working to implement the necessary improvements in its Ecuapass computer system, for the continuous application of this measure, which other countries in the region are also seeking to apply.
