Insulza proposes $ 100 million fund for IACHR and IACourtHR
The general secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Miguel Insulza, said today that he wants to establish a capital fund of $ 100 million to finance the activities of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the Inter-American Court on Human Rights (IACourtHR).
According to Insulza, the fund would be raised with loans from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Andean Development Corporation (CAF for its Spanish acronym). However, he said he has not made an approach with any of these institutions.
The capital fund of the IACHR and IACourtHR, the Oliver Jackman Voluntary Fund currently has $ 152,000 on its credit.
The alleged IDB or CAF loan would be funded “by the State Members of the OAS with partial payments, within a period of 20 years -or another period- and with proportional contributions to the fees they pay to the hemispheric organization,” explained Insulza. (MZ)
