Investigations regarding the attack on the Taromenanes are requested
Yesterday, the Ministry of Justice filed a complaint for the Prosecutor’s Office to conduct an investigation of the alleged attack against the taromenane tribe by the huaoranis, while a march was carried out through the streets of the Coca, Orellana province, in order to ask for peace for the uncontacted indigenous peoples.
Several members of human rights organizations, of the church and community organizations gathered in Coca with signs that said “No to the extermination”, “death of taromenanes not anymore”.
They were seeking to draw the attention of the authorities to make them comply with the precautionary measures that protect the life of the tagaeris, taromenanes and Huaoranis. In addition, a Commission that belonged to these organizations held a meeting with the Prosecutor Pio Palacio, in which they requested that the investigations of the case, speed up and those involved in the attack are interviewed.Likewise, the Assembly members Cléver Jiménez and César Montúfar, were responsible of sending a statement to the Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission of human rights (IACHR), in which they reported the attack, and requested for the organism to be responsible for ensuring the compliance of the precautionary measures on behalf of these people, and to verufy that the Government is fulfilling its duty.
