Jorge Glas’ pension will be withheld due to debts from the sentences he has
If former Vice President Jorge Glas finally manages to get the courts to order the return of his lifetime pension of USD 4,507 per month, he will finally not be able to collect it.
At least that is the position of the State Attorney General’s Office, since Jorge Glas owes thousands of dollars in reparations to the State.
These reparations to the State are ordered in the sentences against him for two cases of corruption.
Glas is free, as a constitutional judge approved his release from prison in November 2022.
Eleuterio Aguilar Heredia, judge of the Balsas canton (El Oro), ordered a week ago that until April 28, 2023, the State pay Jorge Glas retroactively for his life pensions as former vice president.
Glas should collect close to $140,000 cumulative.
What Glas owes to the State
The Attorney General’s Office requested that if the Government pays, these amounts be withheld as part of the USD 778,000 that Glas owes the State for his sentence as the perpetrator of the crime of bribery , for the so-called Bribes Case.
In addition, the former vice president and seven other former officials during the government of Rafael Correa owe the State USD 33.4 million.
That money is for the sentence they have for illicit association in the ” Odebrecht Case “.
What the State managed to recover until April 19, 2023 are two departments of Glas, which were in his name, in Quito and Tonsupa (Esmeraldas).
Glas has two sentences, eight years in prison (for the crime of aggravated bribery in the Bribes 2012-2016 case) and six years (for the crime of illicit association in the Odebrecht case).
